The horses are tired.
How can we ride them? PS:
The horses are tired.
The opening song of Dylan's 1970 album "Self Portrait" confounds many fans. Two women sing, "All the tired horses in the sun, how'm I supposed to get any ridin' done? Hmmmmm..... All the tired horses in the sun, how'm I supposed to get any ridin' done? Hmmmm...." They sing that several more times over a pretty guitar chord and strings as lush as the camerawork and as gaudy as the extramarital affair between Kirk Douglas and Kim Novak in "Strangers When We Meet." Then the song ends. We hear the question a lot, but we never find out how the ladies are going to get the riding done. One singer whose voice we don't hear on the song: Dylan's.
